Technical Objectives

TO1. Develop algorithms that eliminate the errors of low cost scanning devices

IBV has already developed solutions, but these solutions should be adapted to the different scanning technologies and tested.

Success indicator: Elimination of 100% of the errors

TO2. Adapt the 3D scan to the formats needed by the sketching tool.

The result of the 3D scan should be a 3D model ready to use. From scan to CAD in one step.

Success indicator: The apparel designer is able to obtain a ready-to-use avatar in one step and using low-cost scanning devices (e.g. tablet, Kinect or smartphone).

TO3. Define postures and adapt the avatars to the postures.

Bodies are not scanned in the postures used by designers to sketch the garments. Algorithms to change the postures of the avatars should be developed with interfaces easy to use by the designers.

Success indicator: Questionnaires are made during the demonstration pilots in order to compare the opinion of the creative apparel SMEs and designers with the postures obtained with the algorithms. The objective is 100% approval.

TO4. Creation of algorithms that create libraries of avatars adapted to specific clothing collections

There are huge data bases of 3D bodies and algorithms to create avatars based on statistical information. But, specific designs need specific sizes and target population in the same way that designers select specific models to show their designs

Succes indicator: Questionnaires are made during the demonstration pilots in learn to measure the opinion of the creative apparel SMEs and designers about the avatar libraries. The objective is 100% approval.

TO5. Adapt current 3D visualization technologies to the sketching process.

BZW has already developed technology to visualize textile materials, but the sketching is an interactive process that changes dimensions and postures not covered by the current algorithms. Several approaches must be tested and verified

Success indicator: Questionnaires are made during the demonstration pilots in order to measure the opinion of the creative apparel SMES and designers about the sketching tool. The objective is 95% approval. The consortium considers that 5% of disapproval is normal because some designers will be reluctant to adopt new technologies, even though advantages are proven.

TO6. Develop algorithms for transforming sketches in technical drawings

Technical drawings are the first step to initialize the cost analysis. Different elements in the garment should be detected, measured and counted (e.g. neck, pocket, button, etc.).

Success indicator: Questionnaires are made during the demonstration pilots in order to learn the opinion of the creative apparel SMEs and designers about the technical drawings. The objective is 95% approval. The consortium considers that 5% of disapproval is normal because some designers will be reluctant to adopt new technologies, even though advantages are proven.
